Set in various points of the abbey walls are many Roman and medieval bas-reliefs used as reused material. Among these, the most iconic is the funerary one of the ‘Roman matron’ from the 2nd – 1st century BC, inserted in the lower part of the bell tower, while the entrance portal to the second wall embeds some zoomorphic bas-reliefs reminiscent of medieval bestiaries. These were part of the main portal of the primitive church of SS. Salvatore built by S. Guglielmo. Continuing on the right of the female monastery, there is an elegant bas-relief with a full human figure. Many other precious reused pieces are in the Febronia Tower. If you can’t find them all, you can see them projected in the multimedia area; others are in the Museum.
