We have no certain documentation of the features and materials of the original altar, nor is there any information on where it was taken or reused. The large canvas that surmounted this altar, dedicated to the Madonna of Montevergine, by Angelo Michele Ricciardi, is preserved in the Cathedral of S. Angelo dei Lombardi, in the left transept where it can still be admired above the door leading to the crypt. In the chapel of the Sacrament, the environment located to the left of the Montevergine altar, there was another important altar which, according to tradition, was transferred, still after 1807, to the cathedral of Frigento where it was taken as the main altar and where it still stands today.
