On the west side of the former male convent, a new information point has been created on the ground floor to welcome visitors. It includes a projection room that introduces the visit to the abbey, as well as a bookshop.

Upstairs, there are a number of multimedia rooms equipped with innovative technology, serving documentary, educational and recreational purposes.

Of particular note are:

1 - Interactive totem

Interactive maps allow us to navigate and learn more about the places related to Guglielmo and the Abbey of Goleto; we can navigate, for example, along the Ofanto river or walk along the Appian Way. We can rediscover the many places listed in the ‘Legend of the Life of Santo Guglielmo’. Each place has a text sheet divided into several sections. The ‘Totem’ invites us to start our journey.
Recommended for geographers and travellers!

2 - Timeline

A timeline takes us from the 1st century BC to the present day. After the Roman era follows the time of Guglielmo and then that of the Abbey of Goleto, founded by him. The main historical events are reported.
Recommended for historians and the curious!

3 - Immersive room

A series of multiwall projections – created with the help of with artificial intelligence – and a suggestive narrative voice lead us into the world of Guglielmo as a young pilgrim, at the beginning of the 12th century. We will follow him from Santiago de Compostela to Rome and then along the Appian Way and the Ofanto river, in an attempt to reach the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
Recommended to everyone!

4 - Artwall

A mosaic of monitors tells of the abbesses who ruled the Goleto Abbey from 1142 (Guglielmo's death) to 1506, when Pope Julius II decreed the suppression of the female order. The abbesses built a ‘nullius diocesis’ abbey, located outside the jurisdiction of the local church and directly dependent on the pope. Guglielmo, an ecclesiastical innovator and founder of religious communities, created a very rare case of a double monastery of which the main one was led by women.
Did you know that Marina II, abbess of Goleto, is considered by historians to be an ante-litteram feminist?

5 - Digital Library

We can browse through many books dedicated to Guglielmo and the Abbey of Goleto. We will be able to watch hundreds of photos from archives as well as videos shot about the saint's life. Drone photos also make us discover the Abbey from above, in all its complexity. Another section allows us to document all those artistic assets that at the time of the suppression of 1807 were brought to the churches around: paintings, statues, portals.
Recommended for researchers and scholars!

6 - Digital viewers

Sitting on the appropriate safety stools, we can virtually enter the large “del Vaccaro” church, rebuilt exactly as it was, with sophisticated three-dimensional software. We will be able to admire paintings, altars, stuccoes and liturgical furnishings, as they appeared in 1745 at the time of their opening.
Recommended for ages 14 and up: beware, your head might spin!

7 - ‘Path‘ panel

It shows us the itinerary inspired by the traces of Guglielmo as a young pilgrim: through mountains, rivers and lakes, you can discover 30 villages, for a total of 320 km. Start from the Abbey of Montevergine and arrive here at the Abbey of Goleto (at the end of stage 5); continue towards Basilicata and Puglia, visiting other places related to the life of the saint; until embarking for the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
Recommended for walkers!

8 - Narrative Objects

The machine recognises the storytelling objects that are resting on it. These 7 objects depict symbols related to Guglielmo and the Abbey of Goleto; it will be possible to immerse yourself in evocative stories illustrated with images and videos.
Recommended in particular for children up to 14 years of age!

9 - Bas-relief

It is the true-scale reproduction of a 13th-century sculpture depicting San Guglielmo, stolen from the Abbey of Goleto in the 1990s, and reconstructed – thanks to an archive photo – with laser techniques and a three-dimensional printer by an Irpinian start-up. There is a call addressed to You: << Help me go back to the Abbey of Goleto! >>.
