The monastic citadel of Goleto has two walls. The first, accessed through a stone arch partially made with Roman-era spolia stones, surrounds the entire monastic settlement, consisting of the so-called ‘Casale di S. Guglielmo’ (Guglielmo’s Farmhouse) and the abbey complex. The second wall delimits the area originally intended for cloistered life: on the right of the entrance is the female monastery (nuns), and on the left is the male one (monks serving the nuns), each with its own cloister. Within this second wall are the most prestigious buildings of the monastic settlement: the Febronia Tower, the Chapel of S. Luca, and the open-air Church of SS. Salvatore, known as the Church of Vaccaro. Throughout the Abbey, there are many reused stones from the Roman era; try to discover them.
